Man City ‘set to splash out £300m in transfer mega-spend this summer with Pep Guardiola looking at huge squad overhaul’

MANCHESTER CITY are set to spend £300million on a summer transfer splurge, according to reports.

Pep Guardiola’s side are hoping to bounce back quickly after so meekly surrendering their title to Liverpool last season.

The Sky Blues have already bolstered their squad with the £20.8m acquisition of winger Ferran Torres from Valencia.

At 20, the Spaniard arrives from the troubled LaLiga club as a replacement for Leroy Sane out wide.

But the Blues’ spending will by no means end there.

According to The Athletic, “key players and senior employees” at City have been told to expect “significant investment” over the coming months.

Next up is set to be the £41m signing of AFC Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake, having agreed personal terms with the Dutchman.

And Guardiola also wants to strengthen his defence further by bringing in Napoli superstar Kalidou Koulibaly for around £81m – a fee that would smash City’s transfer record.

These hefty acquisitions would throw the futures of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi into doubt – with Guardiola having appeared to lose trust in the duo last season.

With only around half of their mooted budget to be spent on these three players, The Athletic have also speculated on who the rest could be splashed on – with a striker seemingly on the agenda.

City were interested in Joao Felix prior to his move to Atletico Madrid from Benfica last year.

But with the Portuguese prodigy, 20, having already fallen out of favour with Diego Simeone, City have made an “enquiry” as to the availability of the £113m star.

Another that City could return to Lautaro Martinez, having considered the Inter Milan striker in 2018 during his days at Racing Club.

An audacious swoop for Tottenham talisman Harry Kane is also speculated upon, with Guardiola a keen “admirer” of the England skipper.

A new playmaker could be in the pipeline with David Silva set to depart – although Guardiola has previously stated that Phil Foden is ready to replace the Spaniard from within.

Although this summer’s window won’t shut until October, City want to get their business all sewn up by the Premier League’s restart in mid-September.
