According to the Times, Pep Guardiola has set his sights on the 33-year-old.

The City boss views him as a short-term solution to his defensive issues at the Etihad.

Guardiola is believed to be plotting a major summer overhaul after their Champions League ban was overturned.

In a bid to beef up his defence, as many as three purchases could reportedly be made.

Vertonghen, who has been with Spurs since 2012, would bring bags of experience to the Etihad.

The 33-year-old made 231 Premier League appearances, including six goals and four assists.

This season he has racked up 22 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side.

City are also said to have set their sights on Leicester City star Ben Chilwell.

And it is reported that Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly is a top target – but will cost upwards of £75million.

Reports have claimed City could include Nicolas Otamendi in a player-plus-cash deal for Koulibaly.

Guardiola’s side will also need to replace Eric Garcia if Barcelona make their move for him

John Stones has also struggled for first-team football this season – and Jamie Redknapp has urged him to reignite his career with Arsenal.
