Premier League transfer window dates to be confirmed as clubs battle to land targets in shortened summer

PREM clubs will tomorrow confirm the summer transfer window dates.

Clubs are likely to agree the winter break will be abandoned as a result of  Covid-19.

But the biggest concern for the 20 “shareholder” clubs is Financial Fair Play rules and the fate of the three relegated teams  who face the  EFL’s new planned salary cap.

Tomorrow’s latest video meeting of the 20 clubs and Prem chief executive Richard Masters and his team will see a number of issues discussed.

The most pressing is the transfer window, which has already started in some countries and could be opened for Prem clubs next week.

Fifa rules state that the summer window can last a maximum of 12 weeks.

But if Prem clubs wait until the end of the season on July 26, they would only have ten weeks  before the Uefa  window for European club competitions closes on October 5.

What is more likely is the Prem window may open from Monday, but  no one signed before the end of this campaign can play  until next term.

The clubs are also concerned about FFP  changes.

The EFL is ready to introduce salary caps but with the three relegated clubs due parachute payments of  £80million over two seasons they would have an even trickier tightrope to walk.

There are  concerns that clubs with  large overheads going into a cash-straitened Championship would be “devastated”.
