The club’s marquee signings played together for the first time in one of the two shortened friendly matches against West Brom at Old Trafford.
Fernandes netted a penalty during his team’s 60-minute game but fans were more impressed by the Portuguese’s link-up with Pogba.
And Gary Neville moved to answer queries about the two can feature together ahead of United’s return to Premier League action.
He tweeted: “I don’t understand the sentiment of “ How do Pogba and Fernandes “ fit together . They won’t be in a 2 sitting!
“With more fluid systems today than 20 years ago it should be simple. We’ve just watched De Bruyne and David Silva play together for 3 years in a MDF 3.”
Neville’s former United teammate Darren Fletcher agreed that the two can both be stars under Solskjaer but the pair may need to make sacrifices.
He told MUTV Group Chat: “Great players can come together.
“Somebody might have to sacrifice a little bit of something – that’s part of being in a team, it’s not an individual sport. When you play with a certain midfield, whether it’s a midfield three, you adapt your game to complement each other.”
Solskjaer field two different squads against West Brom with a team featuring Pogba and Fernandes falling to a 2-1 defeat, while Andreas Pereira scored twice in a 3-1 win in the other match.
There were fears that their match against Spurs on Friday may be under threat following the news that a Norwich player had tested positive for coronavirus.
Tottenham played the Canaries in a friendly on Friday, a day before the Premier League announced that two more people had tested positive for Covid-19, one of whom played in the behind-closed-doors clash.
