Tyson Fury ‘enjoys inflicting pain’ and ‘punches harder than Anthony Joshua’ says former sparring partner

TYSON FURY’S former sparring partner reckons the Gypsy King ‘punches harder than Anthony Joshua’ and ‘enjoys inflicting pain’.

British heavyweight hopeful Dave Allen is convinced the Mancunian has far too much power for AJ – having shared a ring with both of them in practice.

Joshua and Fury have agreed a two-fight deal in 2021, once the WBC champion completes his trilogy with American Deontay Wilder and Watford boxer AJ takes on Kubrat Pulev.

Allen told Boxing News: “I’m at British title level but Fury can beat me with one arm tied behind his back. He’s that good.

“I’ve said for years that Fury is the heaviest puncher I’ve ever been in the ring with. When he sits down on his punches, I’ve never been hit so hard.

“To be honest, I think he simply enjoys inflicting pain and annoying people with his talent.

“He could sit down on his punches and knock people out but he enjoys boxing and annoying people.

“He’s come back a lot better than I thought he would – I thought it’d take a lot longer but he’s lost none of his boxing ability or athletic ability.

“Once he regains match sharpness after a few fights, he’ll dominate the division again. He’ll stand Joshua on his head.

“I know I sound like a massive fan. I am a massive fan. He’s a brilliant talent.”

WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO title-holder AJ – shocked by roly-poly Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr in a KO a year ago – will put all his belts on the line against Fury, with the winner emerging as the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

Fury himself is convinced he is a bigger puncher than AJ and recently acclaimed himself the greatest boxer of all-time.

He said: “Never mind Mike Tyson from the 80s.

“Muhammad Ali, Joe Lewis, Lennox Lewis, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson, Gene Tunney, Jem Mace, John L Sullivan – going right back to the beginning – not one of them could have beat the Gypsy King.

“Andy Ruiz is not a big puncher but he knocked out Anthony Joshua.

“So I’d say I am a harder puncher than him. There’s people who have sparred both of us and quite a few of them have said it as well.”
