Liverpool destroy Blackburn 6-0 with SIX different scorers with Reds roaring ahead of Premier League restart

LIVERPOOL warmed up for their return to Premier League action with a 6-0 win over Blackburn Rovers today.

With Project Restart kicking off on June 17, the Reds travel to Merseyside rivals Everton in their first game back on June 21.

And in preparation for the derby Jurgen Klopp’s side hit Blackburn for six in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Anfield this afternoon – with SIX different names on the scoresheet.

Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino, Joel Matip and youngsters Ki-Jana Hoever and Leighton Clarkson grabbing the goals.

Keita was particularly impressive according to reports, and looks raring to go ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Goodison Park in ten days’ time.

Klopp fielded a strong side for the encounter, as Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold all featured.

Roberto Firmino came on in the second-half but there was no sign of Mohamed Salah or left-back Andy Robertson.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is thought to have been withdrawn with an ankle injury and faces a race against time to be fit for the Merseyside derby.

The Reds are 25 points clear of second-place Manchester City and could seal the title at Goodison if City lose to Arsenal in their game in hand next Wednesday.

Several Premier League sides have opted to play friendlies with Championship opposition before games in England return next week.

Yesterday Arsenal lost 3-2 to Brentford at the Emirates while Chelsea beat Reading 1-0 at their Cobham training ground.

Manchester United were set to face Stoke at Old Trafford on Tuesday but the match was abandoned at the last minute after Potters boss Michael O’Neill tested positive for coronavirus.

The Premier League returns on June 17 with Aston Villa playing Sheffield United and Man City taking on Arsenal.
