Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez make romantic trip back to Portugal to check on his £7m retirement mansion

CRISTIANO RONALDO and Georgina Rodriguez made a lightning romantic trip back to Portugal at the weekend.

This time though the destination was not Madeira but the upmarket resort of Cascais near Lisbon where the Juventus star and his girlfriend enjoyed lunch before taking a peek at work on the footballer’s new mansion.

The 35-year-old was snapped in fresh fish restaurant Mar do Inferno, although for some reason he was not wearing his obligatory face mask for the selfie with owner Maria de Lurdes Tirano and carried it in his hand.

Maria was wearing her mask which is mandatory in Portugal in indoor public spaces except at restaurant and bar tables once customers have sat down.

She wrote alongside the photo she posted on Instagram: “As you know I rarely publicise photos with customers but forgive me this one. This man is my idol.”

Georgina, 26, gave their next location away by publishing a selfie taken at nearby Quinta da Marinha, one of Portugal’s most prestigious residential areas, where Ronaldo is reportedly building a new mansion.

She offered a clue by writing the words: ‘Boa tarde’ – Portuguese for ‘Good Afternoon’ – against the photo, prompting Cristiano’s sister Katia to reply: “Hummmm” followed by a heart emoticon and thumbs-up.

Dad-of-four Cristiano has reportedly splashed out more than £7million on a large plot of land in Quinta da Marinha on the so-called Portuguese Riviera, according to Portuguese media.

Work has just started on the mansion which respected Portuguese daily Correio da Manha says will be the latest addition to the football star’s property empire.

It says the 35-year-old plans to use the house as an investment, although popular magazine TV 7 Dias claimed he planned to use it as a family home after his retirement.

A source described as a future neighbour has told the magazine: “The land was fenced off recently and it was purchased by Ronaldo.

“This is where he’s coming to live with his family when he finishes his career. Everyone round here knows it and of course we’re happy. Ronaldo is Ronaldo.”

Quinta da Marinha is half an hour from Lisbon Airport and ten minutes from the centre of the coastal town of Cascais, the Lisbon coastline’s premier holiday destination.

The affluent coastal region, centred on Cascais, Estoril and Sintra, is known as the Portuguese Riviera.

Cristiano and Georgina made their flying visit to Portugal at the weekend and are now back in Italy.

They are understood to have jetted to Portugal on the footballer’s private jet after celebrating twins Eva and Mateo’s third birthday last Friday.

It was Cristiano’s first trip back to his homeland since the start of May when he left Madeira following nearly two months on his native island during the coronavirus lockdown as his doting mum Dolores recovered from her March 3 stroke.

The star couple are believed to have flown to Portugal from Italy on the same Gulfstream G200 Galaxy they used to reach and leave Madeira with their children.

Cristiano’s property empire also includes a seven-storey apartment block overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the Madeiran capital Funchal which he purchased last year.

His mum Dolores, 65, and older brother Hugo and his family live at the property.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker spent time there with Georgina and four children during his recent stay in Madeira.

He later moved to a £3,500-a-week rented villa before jetting back to Italy on May 4.

Last December Portuguese media identified Ronaldo as the mystery buyer of Portugal’s most expensive apartment.

The Portuguese captain is said to have beaten off bids from two other millionaires to snap up the 3,100-square-foot flat in the Avenida da Liberdade area of central Lisbon.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also owns a £4.8m mansion on a gated fortress estate called La Finca near Madrid where Welshman Gareth Bale also lives.

He showed off the house in a video released in December 2015, treating fans to a tour of his bedroom, living room, dining room and garden and wishing people a Merry Christmas.

Before splashing out on his expensive Lisbon apartment, he sold a mansion for £2m to his former Real Madrid team-mate Pepe in Geres in northern Portugal.

He is said to have used the money from that sale to buy his Funchal apartment block.
