Tyson Fury hints at boxing for another NINE years until aged 40 to match Wladimir Klitschko’s reign as heavyweight king

TYSON FURY hinted he could emulate Wladimir Klitschko’s reign as heavyweight king and fight until he is 40.

The Gypsy King credits himself for saving the division – which had been ruled by the Klitschko brothers – when he outboxed Wladimir in 2015 to win the unified belts.

Since vacating the titles amid a battle with depression, only to return five years later and beat Deontay Wilder for the WBC crown, the 31-year-old had said he planned to box just twice more.

But, currently on top of the heavyweight thrown alongside Anthony Joshua, Fury appears to have reversed his decision, and suggested he could in fact box for another nine years.

Fury, preparing to face 34-year-old Wilder for a third time, told Sky Sports: “I’ve won every single belt in boxing.

“From the English title to becoming the undisputed heavyweight champ of the world. All done, all finished. Considered the best, done.

“If I don’t box again, I’m happy, but if I do box again, then I continue to box. If we get past this thing, which hopefully we will, then we’re going to keep boxing and just keep taking on contenders.

“Klitschko did it until he was 40. A lot of the great champions are continuing, and continuing.

“I ain’t boxing for money, I ain’t boxing for fame, I ain’t boxing for a belt. I’m boxing because it keeps me mentally happy and I like to do it.”

Fury is just one win away from finally facing 30-year-old Anthony Joshua – who is mandated to face Kubrat Pulev in his next fight – in a Battle of Britain for all the heavyweight marbles.

But despite being neck-and-neck with WBA, IBF and WBO champion AJ, the unbeaten maverick insists he does not need a win against his domestic rival to prove who is the best in the division.

And Fury admits walking away from boxing while on top would be a mistake.

He explained: “Nothing to prove to anybody. Not one thing to prove at all, but I box now, because I love boxing and I’ve been doing it all my life.

“Why walk away when I’m still only young?”
