Fans pray for Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield 3 after both boxing legends come out of retirement in their 50s

BOXING fans are desperate to see Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield go one-on-one for a third time.

The Baddest Man on the Planet announced plans to make a comeback aged 53 to compete in exhibition bouts for charity.

That was followed by The Real Deal confirming he is stepping back into the ring aged 57.

Former undisputed cruiserweight and heavyweight king Holyfield says he will contest exhibition fights for a “great cause”.

Now fans are clamouring to see the two warriors go at it again 23 years after the two were involved in one of boxing’s grimmest moments.

Upon Holyfield’s announcement, one fan responded by tweeting: “Mike Tyson Vs Evander Holyfield Book it.”

A fellow supporter declared: “Holyfield Vs Tyson has to happen to bring our spirits up again.”

Another wrote: “Holyfield v Tyson… the world ain’t ready!”

As another fight fan said: “What are the chances that a Tyson/Holyfield fight is the match we never knew we always wanted to see next.”

While another said: “Evander Holyfield announcing he’s coming out of retirement. Could we possibly see a Holyfield vs Tyson 3 fight?”

Holyfield became the WBA heavyweight king by defeating Tyson in November 1996 via TKO.

Iron Mike soon invoked his rematch clause as he attempted to reclaim his crown the following summer, but his bid to take back the belt ended in controversy.

That night on June 28, 1997 achieved notoriety as one of the most bizarre fights in history after Tyson bit off part of Holyfield’s ear, leading to him being disqualified and losing his boxing license, although it was later reinstated.

The two men have since become friends, with Holyfield expressing his understanding and forgiveness towards his fellow American.

And when he was inducted into the boxing Hall of Fame, Tyson described him as “my friend, one of the greatest world champions” while doing the honours.

But despite their new-found love for one another, could we be about to see the two veterans lock horns once again?

That remains to be seen, but judging by the reaction on social media, there would certainly be plenty of interest.
