Man City face fixture chaos as FA Cup final could fall on same weekend as crucial Champions League clash vs Real Madrid

MANCHESTER CITY could have two huge matches scheduled for the SAME weekend if football is allowed to return.

Prem resumption plans set to be voted on by the clubs next Monday must see the League season end by August 2.

League chiefs will play out the season over seven weekends, with two midweek dates, allowing room in the calendar for the remaining FA Cup ties.

That would allow the FA Cup Final to be played at Wembley, behind closed doors, on August 8.

Holders City, who thrashed Watford 6-0 in last year’s final, have already reached the last eight when they are due to face Newcastle.

SELECTION DILEMMA

But if Pep Guardiola’s men do go all the way to the final again, that would see them run headfirst into a potential fixtures clash.

Uefa plan to resume European club competitions on August 7, allowing the rest of the campaign to be played out during the month and with the Final on August 29.

City could be scheduled to play their last 16 second leg with Real Madrid, where they will seek to convert the 2-1 win in the Bernabeu secured on February 26 into a place in the quarter-finals, for the same weekend.

If so, with Uefa reluctant to give ground having put their competitions on hold for domestic leagues to restart and be played to a finish, the FA might have to move the Cup Final either forward or back to a midweek date.

Of course, this remains entirely hypothetical with no Prem restart date yet confirmed and it would still require City to win their next two Cup ties.

But it could mean an extra and unexpected headache for the FA caused by the coronavirus crisis.
