Bednorz to fire up Russian league

Kazan, Russia, May 1, 2020 – Two high-level internationals will play in Kazan next season. The transfers of Bartosz Bednorz to Zenit Kazan and of Samantha Bricio to Dinamo Kazan, both officially announced on Thursday, highlight recent news from the Russian market.
25-year-old Polish international Bartosz Bednorz signed with the Russian Superliga runners-up after spending his first two seasons abroad with Italy’s Leo Shoes Modena. The 2.01m-tall outside spiker took part in the 2016 Olympic Games and made the Dream Team of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, after winning bronze with his teammates.
Zenit Kazan have also announced the departure of Russian international Alexey Samoylenko. At the age of 34, the 2.07m-tall middle blocker, a 2017 Dream Teamer and gold medallist and 2019 bronze medallist at the FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships, will compete for Belogorie Belgorod.
Other recent market news from Russia:
• 29-year-old outside spiker Marco Ivovic, reigning European champion and MVP of the 2016 World League with the men’s national team of Serbia, will stay with Russian champions Lokomotiv Novosibirsk for another season. At the same time, setter Polish world champion Fabian Drzyzga (30), and Russian 2016 Olympians Konstantin Bakun (35) and Artem Ermakov (38) are leaving the club.
• 30-year-old outside Todor Skrimov, an2012 Olympic semifinalist with Bulgaria, has extended with Yenisei Krasnoyarsk for one more season.
• Russian libero Aleksei Chanchikov (23), a U23 World Championship silver medallist and U21 World Championship bronze medallist in 2017, has moved from Dinamo Moscow to Gazprom-Ugra Surgut.
• Moscow-born German international Egor Bogachev (23) will spend his first season with a non-German club. The 2.03m-tall outside transferred from SWD powervolleys Dueren to Russia’s Ugra-Samotlor Nizhnevartovsk.
• Libero Viktoriia Gorbacheva (25) and setter Daria Ryseva (22), both of whom competed with the Russian national team in the women’s VNL, have extended with Superliga silver medallists Lokomotiv Kaliningrad for the next season.
• The women’s team of Dinamo Moscow will continue to rely on current or former Russian internationals Marina Babeshina (34) – setter, Yana Shcherban (30) – outside spiker, Daria Talysheva (28) – libero, Natalia Krotkova (27) – outside spiker, and Ekaterina Efimova (26) – middle blocker, while 30-year-old middle blocker Ekaterina Lyubushkina has decided to put an end to her career after five seasons with the club.
• 2014 club world champion with Dinamo Kazan Maria Frolova (33), former outside spiker of the Russian national team, returns to Yenisei Krasnoyarsk after spending a season with Leningradka Saint Petersburg.
• 29-year-old setter Irina Filishtinskaia, 2015 Club World Championship silver medallist with Dinamo Krasnodar, and 29-year-old middle blocker Anastasia Samoylenko, 2016 Olympian and 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix silver medallist, who most recently played for Dinamo Kazan until 2018 and 2019, respectively, will resume their careers as players of Yenisei Krasnoyarsk.
• The only foreign team in the Russian Superliga, Minchanka Minsk of Belarus, has attracted the 27-year-old opposite of the national team of Azerbaijan Marharyta Azizova, transferring from Poland’s E.LECLERC Radomka Radom. Minchanka has also announced contract extensions with Belarusian international middle blockers Nadzeya Stoliar (24) and Nadzeya Vladyka (28), as well as the departure of team leader Katsiaryna Sakolchyk (26), outside spiker of the national team of Belarus.
