Generous Pardew donates his £100k survival bonus from Den Haag to health service in Holland after claims he’d pocket it

ALAN PARDEW has denied claims that he will pocket his £100,000 bonus for avoiding relegation with Den Haag.

The 58-year-old decided to donate the money to the Dutch health service and non-playing staff members at the club.

It was confirmed this week that the Eredivise campaign has been abandoned due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Den Haag were slumped at 17th out of the 18 teams in the league – but no sides will be relegated this season.

Reports claimed that Pardew was set to rake in a huge bonus for managing to keep his team in the top-flight.

But the former West Brom boss has confirmed he will kindly donate his entire bonus to help out others.

In a club statement, Pardew, who took over in December, said: “When I signed for ADO there was a bonus clause in my contract for avoiding relegation.

“However, the figure is not the one being represented by the press.

“These clauses are standard practice in the majority of managers’ contracts around the world.

“It was my understanding that this clause would only be activated if we had finished the season and ADO had avoided relegation.

“However, on a technicality issue with regard to the way the Dutch season ended, I was informed ADO intended to pay the bonus.

“I immediately contacted the club and told them not to pay me the money and to either give it to the non-playing staff at the club or donate it to Holland’s health service to help in their efforts to beat Covid-19.

“I hope that clears up any misunderstandings caused by the press reports.

“The thought and prayers and myself and my family are with everyone around the world who was suffered or who are suffering from this terrible virus.”
