John Terry was forced to wear a full Chelsea kit for Champions League final celebrations after beating Bayern Munich

FORMER Chelsea hero Ramires has revealed John Terry lifting the 2012 Champions League in a full kit was NOT the captain’s decision.

The former Blues skipper was left heartbroken after a red card against Barcelona in the semi-final ruled him out of the final against Bayern Munich.

But Terry became an internet meme and was mercilessly ridiculed after he joined in the celebrations in a full kit as Chelsea beat Bayern in a famous penalty shootout.

Ex-Blues midfielder Ramires – who scored a vital goal in the semi-final at Barca – revealed it was actually the club’s  decision to have Terry and the rest of the suspended players lift the trophy in their jerseys.

Ramires, who also missed the final, told FourFourTwo: “All of us changed post-match. The idea came from the club, because they wanted everyone ready for the team photo.”

Terry – who infamously missed a penalty in the 2008 final against Manchester United – admitted he changed into his kit rather hastily before finally managing to get his hands on the Champions League trophy.

When Bayern scored, it was past the 80th minute and some fans started to take the p***. But when Drogba scored, let’s say we had revenge. It was a happiness explosion! Terry stood up on the seat to celebrate.

Ramires on Terry’s Champions League celebration

He said on SoccerAM: “I don’t know why people got so carried away with it. There were four or five other players in the same situation, it wasn’t just me!

“But because people don’t like me as much I got a bit more stick. It actually came from Uefa. In previous years they’d had players in suits but this time they wanted everyone in a kit.

“Not too many people know that. But no doubt about it, I was on early doors with my kit.”

Ramires sat and watched the final in the stands with Terry, and was subject to stick from the Bayern fans after Thomas Muller put them ahead with just seven minutes remaining.

But the 33-year-old Brazilian – now playing for Palmeiras – revealed he and the rest of the elated Blues players got their own back after Didier Drogba headed home a dramatic equaliser in added time.

Ramires explained: “I was really nervous! I kicked things, I screamed, I cursed. When Bayern scored, it was past the 80th minute and some fans started to take the p***.

“But when Drogba scored, let’s say we had revenge. It was a happiness explosion! Terry stood up on the seat to celebrate.

“When it came to Drogba for the last penalty I was very confident – he was our best taker. We were over the moon at full-time.”
