VINCENT KOMPANY has offered to pay for his Anderlecht players if they refuse to give up their wages amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

The Belgian player-manager, 33, has generously given his players a financial lift, with football clubs across the world left reeling at the financial repercussions of the killer bug.

Anderlecht have asked their players to take a pay cut – losing one month’s worth of wages.

But Kompany is offering to bail them out if they are unable to do so, according to reports in Belgium.

The report also states the club want players to take a small hit on their salaries in order to avoid any sackings – of backroom staff or the stars themselves.

Anderlecht players were reportedly told the “choice is yours” after an initial uproar at having a month of pay taken away from them – but they were encouraged to help.

Clubs across the world are struggling to stay afloat after being hit in the pocket by a lack of on-field action – not only hitting ticket sales, but advertising revenues.

Tottenham chief Daniel Levy recently revealed players and coaches would need to accept a pay-cut – after 550 of their staff were put on furlough leave.

Spurs followed Newcastle in becoming the second team to initiate the government scheme.

Furlough leave allows staff to claim 80 per cent of their normal pay-packet, capped at a maximum of £2,500 per month.

But some players across the world are already doing their bit to ensure no one is left out of pocket.

Lionel Messi offered to take a huge 70 per cent cut on his pay-packet in order to ensure Barcelona’s staff continued to be paid.

Cristiano Ronaldo recently took a £3.5millon hit in a bid to help out Juventus.
