Hearn also predicted boxing could return in June but would have to be behind closed doors.

Asked by the BBC if the Whyte fight was going to be postponed, Hearn said: “We will make an announcement, but basically yes.”

The Essex resident was then pressed on when he expected boxing to make a comeback.

He added: “Whether that’s behind closed doors at first, or whether that’s back with small-hall shows, then we hope we can get to the bigger shows before the end of June.

“If you don’t run a sustainable business very quickly this is going to unfold on you like a ton of bricks.

“You realise the severity of this and it’s about life and death rather than just running a business.

“It’s heartbreaking to see every sport suffer and some sports will never recover, some businesses will never recover but more importantly some people will never recover.

“When that’s an issue everything stops and everything becomes insignificant.

“We will beat this, we must do as we’re told but there will still be a future for this country, this sport and this economy.”

Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight showdown against Kubrat Pulev is also in serious doubt – with a decision set to be made this week.

The Brit is scheduled to face the Bulgarian hardman on June 20 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But the heavyweight clash looks likely to be postponed until a later date due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

Hearn will look to reschedule AJ’s fight against Pulev for July if it is postponed.
