Scott McTominay breaks Man Utd legend Denis Law’s 63-year record as kilt-wearing fans flood streets of Naples

FANS flocked to the streets of Naples wearing kilts as Scott McTominay broke a 63-year record previously held by Denis Law.

McTominay and Law, both formerly of Manchester United, have been surprise Scottish hits in Italian football, more than 60 years apart.

McTominay, 28, scored his 10th and 11th goals of the Serie A campaign as Antonio Conte’s side beat Torino 2-0.

Ironically, Law scored 10 goals from Torino back in the 1961-62 season, and his record has stood for over 60 years.

McTominay’s goals were the spark for hoards of Napoli fans to storm the Neapolitan streets, with many dressed in classic Scottish kilts to hail their hero.

Law tragically passed away earlier this year aged 84.

But McTominay has since picked up the Scottish goalscoring path that his predecessor paved for him.

McTominay has been a staple and a revelation in Napoli’s midfield since his £25 million move from United last summer, netting 12 goals in 30 appearances in the Italian top flight.

His 11-goal haul has him joint-eighth in the top goalscorer charts, equal with Roma’s Artem Dovbyk, and just one off Lautaro Martinez.

Napoli now lead Inter Milan at the top of the Serie A table after Simone Inzaghi’s Champions League semi-finalists stuttered in their title defence, falling to a shock 1-0 home defeat by Roma.

Matias Soule, the former Juventus star, netted the winner for Claudio Ranieri’s visitors, who are chasing Champions League qualification themselves with four games to play.

They sit two points off Juve in sixth, with surprise package Bologna occupying fifth.

As for Napoli, they travel to Lecce next, before hosting Genoa.

Their penultimate game has them go to Parma, before their season finale at home to Cagliari.
