Ben Whittaker’s team ‘accidentally get Liam Cameron to sign fight contract with rule change – and now want to change it’

LIAM CAMERON claims Ben Whittaker’s team want to CHANGE the terms of the contract for their upcoming rematch — despite both parties having already signed.

The rivals will step back in the ring on April 20 after a feisty encounter in October.

Cameron appeared to have the upper hand in the match when both men dramatically went over the top rope in the fifth round.

The fight was waved off as judges declared it a split draw.

And after Cameron subsequently signed with promoter Frank Warren, the two men penned a fresh deal for a rematch this month.

However, Cameron claims that issues have now arisen on Whittaker’s side.

He told talkSPORT that his rival’s representatives originally sent through a contract for a 12-round battle.

Cameron signed the document, but Whittaker’s people are now claiming it was sent in error and that they only want a 10-round fight on Easter Sunday.

But Cameron is refusing to back down as he feels the 12-round contract is legitimate.

And he reckons that Olympic silver medalist Whittaker’s desire to fight just the 10 rounds shows he is running scared.

Cameron told talkSPORT: “There is a mess about with the contracts that nobody is letting me speak about, so I’m going to try on here.

“We have signed for a 12-round fight, and they are trying to push it for a 10-rounder, doing everything that they can, and I’m not budging.

Cameron made his claims speaking to talkSPORT

“I’m having a 12-round fight. I tried to do it on Gloves Are Off, and they wouldn’t let me speak about it.

“And on Sky Sports, they didn’t air my interview.

“This is the problem we are having. I signed a 12-round contract fight.

“When I was signing the contract, I thought ‘He couldn’t barely get through five rounds, this is weird’.

“So a couple of weeks went by, and they tried to send another contract for a 10-rounder.

“That shows the confidence levels, I’m ready for 15 rounds…

“It is signed for 12 rounds. There has been a mistake there.

“They thought they sent me a 10-round contract, but really it is a 12-rounder.

“He [Warren] is saying that we are not budging no matter what.”
