World’s oldest football club unveil stunning plans for new stadium incorporating ‘Home of Football’ status


THE world’s oldest football team have announced plans to build a stunning new stadium.

Sheffield FC, founded in 1857, unveiled the joint venture alongside rugby league outfit Sheffield Eagles.

The sporting duo have submitted a planning application to Sheffield City Council outlining their plans for the stunning development.

The stadium, which will be built in the Meadowhead area of Sheffield, is set to have an impressive 5,000 seat capacity when completed.

But alongside the dual-use stadium for rugby and football will be a number of other additions to the local community.

Residents and fans can look forward to a cricket pavilion, multiple artificial sports pitches, an indoor sports hall and a football museum.

It is said that the proposed works will also include improvements to local infrastructure such as highway and cycle paths.

Sheffield FC chairman Richard Tims said: “This development will not be just another shared rugby and football ground.

“It will be a new destination for Sheffield Eagles and ‘The World’s First Football Club’ Sheffield FC.

“Whilst the site will be grounded firmly in the unique history and heritage of both clubs, including Sheffield’s status as the ‘Home of Football’,

“It will also be an exciting destination for sport, physical activity, business, educational, cultural, and other events that will attract local, regional, national, and international audiences.”

Sheffield FC proudly hold on to their title as the “World’s First Football Club” and will be hoping the new stadium will help them match their history with their present.

At the moment they currently play their football behind a pub named the “Coach and Horses” in a ground with 250 seats which they have called home since 2001.
