GARETH SOUTHGATE has named England’s training squad for Euro 2024 – and there are some big names not included.
Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling are all OUT of the list.
Southgate addressed the Ben White situation in his press conference, he said: “As far as I know, he isn’t avaliable for us.”
The England gaffer has selected 33 players for the remaining international friendlies before heading to Germany.
Southgate will be required to reduce the squad list by SEVEN to leave the final 26 players that will star for the Three Lions at Euro 2024.

That’s it from today’s England squad announcement.
You can check out the full 33-man squad here as well as all the latest news on Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Southgate to ‘adapt’
Gareth Southgate believes England can adapt to injuries and challenges this summer.
The Three Lions boss explained: “The job is here to adapt to the situations you have and they are the cards you dealt with.
“The consequences you are dealt with. The injuries are a complex thing, they are not one of the things you spoke about, but they could be a lot of those things.
“Some have played a lot of football, some have come back earlier than they could’ve been. A lot of matches in the calendar. It’s too easy to say winter World Cup or this or that.
“There’s players with better injury records than others, training intensities. Everyone wants simple solutions, but it isn’t that.”
Making his Marc
Marcus Rashford has broken his silence from his shock omission from England’s Euro 2024 squad.
He took to his Instagram story to say: “Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament.”
The big question is…
Can this England squad go all the way?
Southgate says: “Everyone is waiting for that headline. I would be an idiot if I said no.
“But equally if I say yes, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a hell of a lot of work ahead of us.
“Are we one of those teams that can win, of which they are a few, yes.”
Palm of his hand
Could Cole Palmer’s scoring spree for Chelsea relax pressure on Harry Kane?
Southgate says: “Not just Harry but Raheem as well. He was crucial in the last tournaments
“We’ve shared that load as well. Bukayo has weighed in with a lot of goals.
“We need people to come in. To go the distance you need good depth in the squad and the ability to refresh the team as well.”
How does this squad compare to previous?
Southgate has his say: “I will probably be able to assess that better when we can assess the squad.
“There’s definitely more options in the attacking areas. When I think back to Russia and the team there. It’s hard to compare and contrast. We’ve had to find different ways of playing.
“I think we have a pretty set style of playing now, the players enjoy playing it and we’ve got results, so we’re not going to move too far away from that.”
Phone a friend
Southgate reveals he has only had time to break the bad news to players NOT included.
He reveals: “I haven’t had time to phone any of the ones we’re bringing in.
“My priority is for the ones who have unfortunately not made the squad. The nice calls are not my priority.”
White noise
Southgate admits there have been no talks with Ben White after the Arsenal star withdrew from the World Cup squad last winter.
The England boss says: “No, as far as I’m aware, he’s not available to us.”
Phil your boots
On speculation on where Phil Foden will play, Southgate says: “The key with Phil is where he ends up, not in his starting position.
“With City, he’s often allowed to drift and it’s the same with us. Jude has played all season as a 10, but has often defended on the left.
“I think it’s about where you let the players to drift to that’s the key. We would never pin them to one position.
“Phil has had a brilliant season. You want him in those central areas, as you do with one or two others. We have to find a way to make that happen.”
Dier straits
Despite Eric Dier’s form in Germany for Bayern Munich, he did not make the cut.
Southgate says: “He’s played very well for Bayern. I know they are very happy with him.
“He’s just a bit behind the other guys we’ve selected. He’s played in some big games as well. We’ve assessed it all.”
On the defensive
On Southgate’s injury woes, he said: “If we picked tomorrow we might take a dozen defenders because we have so many questions.
“In a few weeks it will be much clearer. I think you can take too many forwards. You can have too many options.
“With forwards you have to make them feel loved. With too many options, that can be complicated.”
No Shaw thing
Southgate admits injured Luke Shaw faces a fight to get into the final squad.
He says: “I have to say he’s up against it. He’s missed a lot of football.
“I’m not sure what is realistic at this time. I’ve liaised with Man Utd very closely. I’d have to say he’s a long shot.”
Young guns
Southgate insists young stars will get the chance to shine.
He says: “Everybody has a chance. The reason for a longer squad is we wer ein a similar situation before the last Euros.
“There are some injury issues that are very obvious and apparent and there are some that are more nuanced that we don’t have all the info on.
“Sometimes we need to see the players before making a decision. I think we can make better decisions with time.”
More on Henderson’s exclusion
Southgate says: “He’ll be a miss, there’s no doubt about that. He’s a fantastic human being. He’s been in that leadership role for a long time.
“We have young players with a lot of caps. There’s no reason young players can’t lead.
We’ve moved away a little bit from the defined leadership group. Sometimes when you limit that group it means others don’t step forward when they might and defy to a hierarchy.
“I want input from various areas. I have noticed occasions where, even with the captain and vice-captain, there’s a bit of deferential behaviour and we don’t want that.”
Southgate says
On Henderson: “The 33 isn’t quite a fair definition because we’re taking a longer squad with some young players who we want to have a look at.
“The determining factor is the injury he had around the last camp. He missed five weeks.
“He’s a fantastic professional. It was a really difficult call to make. He’s been so supportive during my time here.
“Considering the disappointment, they dealt with it really well.”
Southgate says
On Rashford, he says: “These are of course difficult calls. You’re talking about players who a important players and have
“I feel with Marcus there are other players who have had better seasons.”
Gone South
Gareth Southgate has previously backed Marcus Rashford when his club form has been sub-par, claiming he has continued to play well for his nation.
But he has paid the price for his struggles this term under Erik ten Hag, who has reduced him to the bench in recent weeks.
Henderson, 33, is surprisingly left out given he has been a regular during most of Southgate’s tenure.
But the decision of the 81-cap midfielder to quit Anfield for Saudi Arabia last summer, even if he did leave Al-Ettifaq for Ajax in January, looks to have cost him.
Wharton, 20, has been a revelation since signing for Palace from Blackburn for £22million in January and has been rewarded with an inclusion.
While Reds centre-back Quansah, 21, who spent part of last season at Bristol Rovers, has emerged as a regular under Jurgen Klopp this term and been included.
Team-mate Jones, 23, was England’s best player last summer as they won the Under-21 Euros in Georgia.
Help in Hend
From Tom Barclay
Marcus Rashford is OUT of England’s Euros squad after failing to make Gareth Southgate’s 33-man provisional selection for the tournament.
Jordan Henderson is the other big shock omission while Chelsea full-backs Ben Chilwell and Reece James have missed out too.
But Henderson’s former Liverpool team-mates Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah have been included, as well as Crystal Palace sensation Adam Wharton.
All three are uncapped, as are Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford who have also made the cut.
There was no place for Jadon Sancho, despite gearing up for a Champions League final with loan club Borussia Dortmund.
While Nick Pope, Fikayo Tomori, Levi Colwill and Kalvin Phillips also were left out.
