I sparred Tyson Fury – he was very Marmite, it would depend which version of him would turn up

TYSON FURY has been labelled a “Marmite” fighter by sparring partner Moses Itauma.

Itauma, the 19-year-old dubbed Britain’s answer to Mike Tyson, was drafted in as a southpaw sparring partner for Fury.

The 8-0 teen sensation was in camp ahead of Fury’s proposed undisputed title decider with Oleksandr Usyk on February 17.

But the Gypsy King was forced to pull out after suffering a horror cut in sparring just two weeks before the proposed unification bout.

The first ever four-belt heavyweight undisputed decider has now been rescheduled to May 18 and Itauma lifted the lid on Fury’s training.

He said on talkSPORT: “Obviously I was in Tyson’s camp, he was very Marmite in sparring – some days he’d do good but in some he’d been unbelievable.

“It honestly depends on what version of Fury turn up. If the one sparring on good days turns up he will have a very easy night with Usyk.

“As I say he’s very Marmite, he could have a bad day in sparring and I feel like the Francis Ngannou fight was a very bad day.”

Fury has not fought since October when he was floored by MMA superstar Francis Ngannou before winning a controversial split-decision.

Ngannou was later brutally knocked out by Anthony Joshua, who Itauma has also sparred.

Opening up on the British superstars, Itauma said: “[Fury] gave me loads of advice.

“Currently, I think he is No1. There are so many factors people don’t take into account.

It honestly depends on what version of Fury turn up. If the one sparring on good days turns up he will have a very easy night with Usyk.

“Joshua had something to learn off [before fighting Ngannou], Fury never did. Fury was the first person to do that crossover.

“It was great entertainment. Whether he took it seriously is another thing.”
