A PREMIER LEAGUE defender insisted on delaying his medical – because he was watching Love Island.
Newcastle’s Kell Watts has returned for a second loan spell at League One Wigan.
But the centre-back was in no hurry to get the deal over the line as ITV’s hit reality show took priority.
Club doctor Jonathan Tobin tweeted: “The only pre-signing medical I’ve ever done that had to be delayed because the signee insisted on watching Love Island.
“Not even joking. Tics, I give you Kell Watts. Some fella.”
Watts first joined Wigan on loan in 2021 but he spent last season with Peterborough United.

Watts said: “When it first came about, it was something that I was really looking forward to doing.

“I created memories that will last my whole career, and I’m wanting to make more memories in a Wigan shirt now.”

Manager Shaun Maloney added: “I’m really happy that we’ve managed to secure Kell’s return.
“A left-sided centre-back is a difficult profile to get, so he’s a really positive signing for us.
“Off the pitch, he’s the right type of character that we need, and he was extremely popular amongst staff and previous players during his last loan here.
“He’s a really important signing for us. It’s took us some time but I really appreciate the work of Newcastle United and the people here at Wigan have done to get that through.”
