Asked what his main role is over the final few weeks, Pep said: “Telling them that if you are tired, you’re wrong. You are not tired.

“People say it is a lot of games. But when you are winning matches, as a manager you are already dreaming, ‘We are close to winning the title’.

“And of course most of the players will now feel the same.

“It’s just a question of sleep and sleep and sleep. Eat a lot and drink.

“But only water ? not another type of drink. Water, water, water.

“Take a lot of naps after lunchtime for better regeneration.

“And just use all your energy in the moments of the game.

“The rest, they have incredible physios to take care of them. And they can do it. They did these things in the past, so they can do it again.”

With the World Cup breaking up the season in November and December, it has felt like a gruelling season for many stars in Guardiola’s squad.

But he insists it is no time for his players to be putting their feet up yet.

Pep added: “We are not going to lose games because we are tired. You are tired when you are out of competitions.

“After you are out, the seasons are so long, they never end. You want to finish as soon as possible to start the next one.

“But when you are here, you are not tired, that’s for sure.”
