MICHAEL OWEN has been dubbed the “gift that keeps on giving” after his latest bizarre anecdote.
The former England striker followed up his apple-throwing story with a tale about hitting someone with a dart as he hit the red carpet.
Owen appeared in front of the cameras ahead of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards on Tuesday night.
Asked for his Christmas confessions, the 44-year-old explained: “I remember throwing a dart in someone’s leg before, thinking they’re just going to move out the way, just joking around.
“I was about 20 metres away and thought ‘yeah I’ll just lob this one towards a sad person’.
“And they just seem to watch it and watch it and watch it just plunk right in their leg and I was like ‘you’re supposed to move’.

“I didn’t do it too hard. I wasn’t going to announce that to the world but as you’ve asked.”
His admission had fans in hysterics, with one commenting: “The gift that keeps on giving. He’s managed to turn a Christmas ‘confession’ into another story about being great at throwing things from distance.”
Another joked: “He can’t keep getting away with this!”
A third fan also added: “Just stop throwing things, Michael.”

Owen’s latest tale comes after he spoke of being “brave” enough to throw apples in a bin at home as a kid.
Appearing on Upfront with Simon Jordan, he recalled: “I had the bravery to miss and for their to be a stain on the wallpaper and my Mum to absolutely scream at me and send me upstairs.”
The ex-Liverpool forward, who won BBC Sports Personality of the Year himself in 1998, was amongst the sporting stars at Tuesday’s ceremony.
Lionesses goalkeeper Mary Earps took home the award after her Women’s World Cup heroics.
In doing so, she made history as the first goalkeeper to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
