MANCHESTER UNITED were the toast of Wembley as they beat Newcastle 2-0 in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
A Casemiro goal and a deflected Marcus Rashford strike, later awarded as a Sven Botman own-goal, put the Red Devils on course for victory.
And the result saw United lift their first trophy since 2017.
Erik ten Hag will now be hoping to round off a brilliant debut season with success in the FA Cup and Europa League.

How different this game could have been had De Gea not denied Allan Saint-Maximin with a brilliant stop at his near post at 0-0.
Didn’t have a lot else to do, but that was crucial.

Booked for a cynical foul to bring down livewire Allan Saint-Maximin early on, but also showed decent delivery when going forward.

Brave interception to stop fellow Brazilian from getting on a Saint-Maximin pass on the edge of the box at 0-0.
Booked for a clumsy foul but positionally sound.

Wound up Newcastle with some of his arrogant flicks and tricks – but, to be fair, they were pretty effective.
One set up a counter that led to a great Wout Weghorst shot.
BRUNO FERNANDES – 5
Quiet game for the Portuguese playmaker – but United’s dominance meant it mattered little.
Risked a penalty when felling Fabian Schar but ref David Coote did not give it.
MARCUS RASHFORD – 7
Everything he touches right now turns to goals.
Won the free-kick which led to the opener then his shot deflected up off the unfortunate Sven Botman for the crucial second six minutes later.
WOUT WEGHORST – 7
You can see why Erik ten Hag likes him, even if he is not a huge goal threat.
Very effective in opening up chances for his team-mates, up for a scrap and even came close with a long-ranger.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (for Diogo Dalot at HT) – 7
Solid defensive clearance from a free-kick shortly after coming on, he kept pace with the tricky Saint-Maximin.

Solidly helped see out the game.

Could he be wearing black and white next year? His energy would suit Eddie Howe’s side nicely.
