FANS have scoffed at Jamie Carragher’s claim Lionel Messi might never play in the Champions League again.
Bayern Munich kept the 35-year-old quiet as PSG exited the world’s top club competition at the last-16 stage for the fifth time in seven seasons.
PSG old boy Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry fired second-half goals as Bayern triumphed 2-0 in Germany for a 3-0 aggregate win.
Liverpool legend Carragher had warmed up for Wednesday’s return leg by telling CBS Sports: “It could be the last time we see Lionel Messi in the Champions League.”
But most supporters who responded on social media feel certain the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will still be at the highest level next term.
The 2022 World Cup winner’s PSG contract runs out in the summer amid talk he’s reluctant to extend his stay.

But one fan posted: “He is not leaving Europe. I think it’s safe to say whatever his club is next season it will be a Champions League club.”
And other supporters reckon some of Carragher’s previous predictions suggest he might be off the mark this time.
Such jibes included: “@Carra23 was also convinced @realmadridfem won’t win @ChampionsLeague league last year.”
And a Messi enthusiast said of the ex-England defender’s verdict: “Well good thing he’s always wrong.”

One of the few bright points for the Argentina hero on Wednesday evening was his latest piece of history-making.
He followed Cristiano Ronaldo (178) and Iker Casilla (176) as the only player to reach 150 Champions League starts.
Messi picked up a winner’s medal four times with Barcelona.
But he’s gone out in the round of 16 in both his seasons with PSG.
