Italy legend Daniele De Rossi sacked after just FOUR MONTHS of first managerial job at SPAL with side in relegation zone


ITALY legend Daniele De Rossi has been sacked as manager after only four months at Serie B strugglers SPAL.

The 39-year-old was in only his first job in football management but could not replicate his on-pitch talent in the dugout.

De Rossi lost his job after only 16 league games in charge, managing just three wins.

Spal sit third bottom in the table a point away from safety in Italy’s second tier.

SPAL announced their decision with a statement on their website where they also revealed a number of backroom staff were also leaving the club.

They said: “SPAL announces that Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his role as first team coach.

“The Company would like to thank the coach and the members of his staff for the work done in recent months, wishing them the best professional luck for the future of their careers.”

De Rossi replaced Roberto Venturato in October but could not help turn around the club’s fortunes.

He is the latest football legend of the noughties to try their hand at management with the new generation experiencing mixed fortunes.

The Italian was seen as one of the best players in his position during his 18 years at Roma between 2001 and 2019.

He left the club after making 616 outings in all competitions and made the most appearances for the Italian side apart from fellow legend Francesco Totti.

He retired following a short stint at Boca Juniors after leaving the Stadio Olympico.

Despite his incredible reputation, he would only win three cup trophies during his time at Roma.

But he would win the 2006 World Cup with Italy however missed four games for elbowing ex-Fulham and US star Brian McBride.
