Ian Wright says Antony’s petulant kick at Doku WASN’T his fault as he lays blame on Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes

IAN WRIGHT has claimed that Bruno Fernandes is to blame for the his teammate Antony’s petulant kick at Jeremy Doku.

Manchester United were taught a lesson by their neighbours Man City last weekend when they were comfortably beaten 3-0 at home.

And after being subbed on in the 86th minute by Erik ten Hag, Antony vented his frustration by kicking out at City’s newest arrival Doku.

The Brazilian winger was unable to get the ball off Doku and as he skipped away from him for the second time, Antony kicked out at the 21-year-old.

What followed was a heated confrontation as the City starlet questioned Antony’s behaviour only to have his outstretched hand slapped away by the Red Devil.

And despite the incident not involving Man Utd captain Fernandes, former Arsenal star Wright thinks it’s his attitude that has caused Antony’s outburst.

Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show he said: “Bruno [Fernandes] sometimes just goes off and they’re not ready.

“It’s not good for the team. Watching Antony come on and his contribution was to kick out at Doku like that, but the example of the captain is seeping in. That’s the captain doing it.”

Fernandes is often a frustrated figure when on the pitch for the Manchester giants and has seen his team struggle for form since he took over the captaincy.

The Portugeuse playmaker was given the armband this summer after ten Hag stripped Harry Maguire of the role.

Since leading his team out as captain, Fernandes’ Man Utd have lost five of their ten Premier League games this season.

Wright seemed to have more issues with the skipper’s attitude too as he took aim at his preformative pressing during tough matches.

He said: “He closes down on his own as well, that’s a signal to players who you’re playing with that he’s playing for the crowd,

“When you see people just going on their own and you don’t see anyone else backing up, you kind of feel like he’s looking out for himself.”
