GARETH Ainsworth’s lucky boots weren’t enough to save Wycombe from losing at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The Chairboys manager opted to wear his £200 red snakeskin boots for the trip to Hillsborough.
But they weren’t able to prevent Wycombe’s difficult start to the season from continuing.
In fact, their luck lasted just 38 seconds as Joe Jacobson turned into his own net inside the opening minute.
An incredible Anis Mehmeti run allowed ex-Stoke City and Burnley striker Sam Vokes to thump the away side level soon after.
But Wednesday were back in front just past the half hour mark when Barry Bannan scored from close-range.

Callum Paterson made the points save with the last kick of the game.
Ainsworth made his boots public after Wycombe won promotion to the second tier for the first time in their history in 2020.
Following a 2-1 victory over Oxford in the League One play-off final, Ainsworth joked that they were lucky because he’d never lost in them.
Unfortunately, Wycombe were relegated the following season.

Meanwhile, they’re are currently 17th in League One after just three wins in their opening 10 games.
And if the Chairboys want to return to the Championship, Ainsworth might have to find a new lucky charm.
