Supporters have continued to protest their running of the club with a demonstration taking place ahead of the match against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

The Glazers have appointed the Raine Group to oversee the sale of United and the investment banking firm is aiming to have completed a takeover in the first quarter of 2023.

Now The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has told fans to “watch this space” regarding a takeover.

He said: “The Raine Bank who are in charge of this process they are aiming for a complete sale of Manchester United in the first quarter of 2023.

“Therefore the Glazer family are not going to sanction a massive outlay of cash on deals at this time of the year.

“You will need to watch this space on a takeover because it could be coming very soon and it will be a seismic moment in the history of Manchester United because so many supporters have wanted a change in the hierarchy.

“They have had so many changes off the pitch but now it could go to the very top and if Raine Bank who are leading this process get their way, it is going to be a fascinating few months ahead to see who takes charge and leads them into the future.”

Raine have set an asking price between £7-8billion which they hope will quickly establish the serious candidates.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe approached the Glazers in the summer about buying the club and is expected to enter the running, though will likely need help from other investors.

Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani, worth a reported £73bn, has also been tipped as a possible interested party.

Sir Martin Broughton organised a consortium to purchase the Blues, as did Atalanta owner Stephen Pagliuca – both are being linked to United.

However, it is believed Raine are yet to hold serious talks with any interested party.
