A LINESMAN had to be rushed to hospital after being hit by a lit flare before the start of a women’s football match.
Footage of the extraordinary moment showed it fizzing through the air and knocking the match official to the ground as the players lined up to applaud spectators seconds before the ref was due to begin play.

The match, between home side Tiro Federal and Libertad, was suspended as a result of Saturday afternoon’s incident, which occurred less than a week after a referee was attacked by at least eight players from an Argentine men’s team when they lost a penalty shootout.
Police have confirmed the lit flare was thrown from the area where the home side spectators were watching the match.
