My boyfriend played for Celtic and Glasgow felt like home – his move came so quickly he left with wet pants and socks

A FOOTBALLER’s girlfriend has documented the whirlwind experience of being told to up sticks and move house if their partner signs for another club.

Ellie Butler, girlfriend of Celtic star Liam Shaw who moved on loan to Morecambe in the summer, had been living with her boyfriend in Glasgow ever since the defensive midfielder joined the Hoops from Sheffield Wednesday in June 2021.

He had previously spent time on loan at Motherwell but given the proximity of Fir Park to Glasgow, the couple didn’t need to move and were able to stay put in a place Ellie said “felt like home”.

That all changed when Celtic decided to loan the 21-year-old out to Morecambe – over 150 miles away.

Ellie opened up on how quickly she had to get things organised for the move and confessed that it all happened in such a rush that Liam left for his new team with a bag full of wet pants and socks!

A vlogger, Ellie told her YouTube channel: “We found out yesterday and he had to leave straight away.

“I had to pack him a case and iron all his clothes and stuff.

“I’m not complaining by the way, obviously, but it’s been stressful!

“I’ve got to pack up this apartment, sort all the bills out and cancel everything, sort out a moving van and go and meet Liam down there.

“We do love it here and it just feels like home now. I know we’ve only been here just over a year but I love Glasgow, everyone here is so friendly. I love this apartment but I’m excited.

“It’s a new adventure, a fresh start somewhere new. At least I’ve started my YouTube channel while we’re in this apartment so we’ve got the memories to look back on.”

Liam had to leave before Ellie so as to make it in time to do the usual pre-signing medical checks, with Morecambe keen to play him in their next game.

That’s why he had to rush off on his own – with the bag of wet underwear in tow!

Ellie added: “Liam had to take a bag of wet pants and socks because we didn’t even have time to wash anything!

“So he’s going to have to hang them up to dry.”

The kitchen was emptied ahead of the move and went from looking like this…

Just before packing up the final bits and bobs from their home, Ellie showed off an array of pillow and bed sheets that she picked up from B&M for their new place.

She also revealed Liam spent his first couple of nights in Morecambe in hotel rooms as the club went about arranging an apartment for him in between training and playing games.

But with her partner away and forced to organise everything by herself, Ellie admitted during the video how things got overwhelming as she became upset.

She said: “I don’t know why I’m crying. I think it’s because I’ve not got any help and it’s just horrible doing this all on my own because I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing.

“I don’t know what to pack. I don’t know what the apartment looks like, I don’t even find out the address of the apartment until tomorrow when Liam moves into it.

“We’re going to have no TV which is fine but I need to sort the Sky out and stuff.

“This is so stressful on my own.”

Just before setting off to meet up with her beau, Ellie gives viewers a tour of their empty apartment.

She had to leave behind a cupboard of big coats, wellies and their Christmas tree for the removal van, alongside all of her partner’s clothes and gaming equipment.

Ellie also shared one last panorama from their balcony, from which you could see Glasgow’s famous Finnieston Crane and the OVO Hydro.

With a new set of flats are being built on the land adjacent to them, Ellie confessed she’d found one positive of the move that “no one would be staring at her” from the new apartments.
