Though replays showed there may have been a foul on Anthony Elanga in the build up.
Elanga had earlier missed United’s best chance after a point-blank save by Oblak.

United now have some time off with their next game being a league match at Old Trafford against Leicester on 2nd April.
In the meantime, they will have to look on as they watch the Champions League quarter-final draw on Friday wondering what could have been.

The game seemed to get to a stage where United just run out of ideas after Oblak and Atletico had kept them out for so long.
They played into Madrid’s hands at every opportunity, allowing them to run the clock down and frustrate them.

It is hard to see where Champions League qualification is coming from now with Arsenal in such a good position in fourth spot.
It would be a major blow to a team who have only recently re-introduced themselves to Europe’s biggest competition.
The books demand the revenues it brings, players want to play in the biggest trophies which may affect the pull of the club in the transfer window.
Numerous managers have been in and out of the managerial turnstyle that is Old Trafford but nothing seems to change.
