The pair faced off at the weekend in Brentford’s trip to Carrow Road, the first competitive game Eriksen had started since his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

And they were pictured hilariously embracing after Williams had initially reacted angrily to being bundled over by Eriksen.

Speaking about the encounter, Williams told Sky Sports: “Obviously, it was just a moment that happened, it was just instincts.

“I got past him and I felt him pull me down, so we was on the attack and I was really angry.”

Williams went on to say he planned for a confrontation, but held back after realising what Eriksen has ‘been through’ in the last nine months.

He continued: “I was going to…hold him but I know what he’s been through, and it’s incredible what he’s done, and he’s back now.

“It was something special for him to be on the pitch for himself, and to be involved in that, I felt like he needed a hug.

“It’s something that no player wants to go through, it was amazing that he’s back and he’s a top quality player and I’m sure he’ll be back to his best very soon.”

Eriksen did show glimpses of his best after playing a massive hand in Brentford’s opening goal in the crunch relegation six-pointer.

His corner was flicked on at the front post by Kristoffer Ajer, before Ivan Toney slammed home at the back post to give the Bees the lead.

Toney then added two penalties for the West Londoners, while the Canaries scored a late consolation through Teemu Pukki.
