Chelsea ban season ticket holder following investigation into racist abuse of Son Heung-min during Tottenham draw


CHELSEA have banned a season ticket holder indefinitely for racially abusing Tottenham star Son Heung-min.

The incident in question occurred when the South Korean went over to take a corner during the second half of the 2-2 draw.

Chelsea acted quickly to investigate the incident and the culprit has now been identified and handed a ban.

A short statement from the club read: “Following our statement this week on racist abuse at the Tottenham game last Sunday, Chelsea Football Club can confirm that it has identified and banned a season ticket holder indefinitely.”

This week footage emerged which appears to show a racist gesture aimed at the player.

The Blues were quick to condemn the action, stating discrimination of any form has no place at Stamford Bridge or in any Chelsea community.

Chelsea have made attempts to make it easier for spectators to report alleged abuse as part of their partnership with the No To Hate campaign.

It follows an incident from 2018 when now Chelsea star Raheem Sterling was racially abused by spectators while playing for Manchester City.

Four fans were accused of racially abusing the England star with one also receiving a life ban.

Back in April 2021, three Manchester United season-ticket holders were suspended after abusing Son online in the wake of the Red Devils’ 3-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And two years prior to that, a West Ham supporter was fined for racially abusing Son during a Carabao Cup match.

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel was also fined £35,000 and received a one-match touchline ban which has been suspended pending the publication of the Regulatory Commission’s written reason for its decision.

The German was sanctioned after breaching FA Rule E3 for his altercation with Spurs boss Antonio Conte last weekend.
