And after all the years of feuding and it was Brook who secured bragging rights for life with a sixth-round stoppage.

According Adam Smith, the head of Sky Boxing, it proved a blockbuster success on PPV.

Smith told Boxing Social: “It was over half-a-million. So over 500,000, which we were very pleased with.

“Excellent business for Sky Box Office but more importantly the customers loved the story.”

By those numbers, at £19.95 a go, the sworn enemies would have made around £10m in PPV receipts.

Promoter Ben Shalom, whose Boxxer banner is partnered with Sky, was the man to finally broker the fight.

But the negotiations included a rematch clause in the contract for the loser.

It has since emerged Khan is considering activating his right to a second fight, which even Shalom accepts will be a hard-sell.

He told Sky Sports: “I think the word on the street is true – Amir Khan, he doesn’t want to call it a day.

“He has spent a lot of time thinking about the fight the past couple of weeks and he feels like he had ten weeks to prepare and Kell Brook had six months.

“So he feels hard done by. I don’t know whether that fight is even possible, but he does have that rematch clause.

“For me, for Kell Brook it’s time to move on, whether it’s to retire or to fight one of the other names mentioned.

“I can’t see it, but Amir is convinced, we will hear what his reasons are in the next few days and we’ll have to take it from there.”
