Wembley matches at Euro 2020 to be EXEMPT from lockdown rules after June 21 with at least 22,500 fans roaring England on

EVERY Wembley match at Euro 2020 will be EXEMPT from lockdown rules no matter what happens on June 21, according to reports.

The date has been targeted as Freedom Day by the government, but rumours hint at a delay to lockdown easing.

But regardless if rules are made more lenient, Wembley will host at least 22,500 fans in each Euro game it hosts.

Current rules limit stadia to 10,000 fans for non designated test events.

However, each England group game will act as a government test event, allowing for up to 22,500 spectators – the number the Football Association promised Uefa.

The FA has committed to hosting at least 22,500 fans for each game at Wembley, including the latter stages.

And according to the Daily Mail, the government will not backtrack on the commitment to Uefa, with the round of 16 matches, semi-finals and final – all of which take place after June 21 – allowed to go ahead with at least 22,500 spectators.

Those games could see Wembley up to 50% full if lockdown restrictions ease, but a maximum capacity is believed to be unlikely.

England’s first match against Croatia will see vaccine passports used for the first time at a major UK sporting event.

Vaccinated fans will be able to gain entry via the NHS app, while those yet to receive a vaccine will be eligible for entry if they produce a negative Covid test – as applied to fans attending the FA Cup final and other recent events.

An announcement on Monday will confirm whether Freedom Day will go ahead on June 21.

That could potentially enable the FA to prepare for bigger crowds in the latter stages of the competition, though at present it looks doubtful restrictions will be lifted.
