Real Madrid ‘give up on Kylian Mbappe’ after being priced out of move with French striker poised to sign new deal at PSG

REAL MADRID are being forced to scrap their plans to sign Kylian Mbappe after being priced out of a move, according to reports.

Los Blancos have been long-term admirers of the French superstar with plans to launch an audacious offer in the summer.

Zinedine Zidane’s side were prepared to offload a number of stars including Isco, Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic to prepare a £135million bid.

But Paris Saint-Germain are holding out for close to the £180m they forked out for him from Monaco in August 2017.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has had a crippling impact on finances across football and Real Madrid are no different.

The LaLiga giants must also pay back a £500m loan taken out to renovate the Bernabeu which must be reimbursed next year, according to the Daily Mail.

Mbappe’s contract in the French capital expires in 2022 with the club and player locked in negotiations to extend it.

The rapid forward spoke out for the first time over his contract situation at the weekend and dropped a big hint that he was planning to stay.

He said: “We’re in talks with the club to find a project. I’m thinking about it because I think, if I renew, it’ll be for a long time.

“I’m very happy here, I always have been happy here. The fans, the club… they’ve always helped me. That’s why I’ll always be grateful to the club.

“But I want to think about what I want to do in the coming years, where I want to be.

“We’ll have to make a decision soon, but I’m just thinking about it now. If I had an answer today, I’d have said it today.

“But it’s not a question of saving time, it’s simply about reflection.

“I don’t want to sign a contract and say I want to leave a year later because I didn’t want to sign the contract. No. If I sign, it’s to stay. And that warrants reflection.”

Mbappe has been in ruthless form this season scoring 14 goals and assisting six in 17 league appearances.
