Mikael Silvestre predicts where former club Arsenal will come this season in Prem – and it’s not good news for Europe

EX-ARSENAL ace Mikael Silvestre has predicted where he thinks his former club will finish in the Premier League this season.

And if the Frenchman, 44, is right, then the Gunners can forget about qualifying for Europe.

That’s because Silvestre reckons Mikel Arteta’s side will find it difficult to break into the top six this time around.

With Arsenal’s Prem rivals such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City all spending big this summer, Silvestre thinks it’ll be hard for the Gunners to keep up.

In an interview with the MyBettingSites, reported by the Metro, he said: “When a team like Arsenal see the top teams spending a lot of money and bringing in quality players, it will worry them quite a bit.

“They already had a tough task with having to improve from last season and closing the gap.

“But this has made it extremely hard for Mikel Arteta and his team to break into the top six this season.

“That must be their main aim this season – to break back into the top six.”

However, the defender who made 26 appearances and scored three goals for Arsenal in his time there, did offer some positive news for the club in the form of new £50million signing Ben White.

Although Silvestre thinks the Brighton centre-back had a difficult time in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford last week, he will add quality to the team as time progresses.

He added: “Ben struggled on Friday against Brentford but he’s well-equipped, intelligent and is clever so I’m sure he’ll learn from his mistakes from the opening game.

‘It is a big step for him coming from a team like Brighton to Arsenal, but I believe that he’ll bring quality to the team at the back.”

Silvestre’s been vocal on the Prem this week and also claimed this his ex-United team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to win a trophy this season.

Solskjaer’s brought in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, and Silvestre reckons he needs to justify his spending with silverware.
