MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly refused to sack ‘narcissistic bully’ board member Manu Sawhney despite his firing from the International Cricket Council.
The Telegraph claims Sawhney remains a director at Old Trafford despite an ICC review allegedly finding him guilty of bullying colleagues and acts of ‘physical aggression’.
Sawhney was chief executive of the ICC, where he reportedly affected the ‘health and wellbeing’ of staff by acting like a ‘complete narcissistic bully’, until his axe this summer.
And he allegedly resigned from two previous jobs following internal investigations into his conduct.
But Sawhney continues to sit on United’s board after being a director for the past decade.
A Red Devils spokesman told the Telegraph: “Manu Sawhney has served as an independent director of Manchester United for the past nine years.
“During his tenure on the board, we have not received any complaints about his conduct.”
Sawhney himself claims he was victim of a witch-hunt at the ICC, saying: “These allegations are not a true reflection of me or my time at the ICC.
“I am saddened that a small number within the organisation continue to make these false claims following my departure.
“Neither these nor any other concerns regarding my conduct were raised with me during my time at the ICC and once I was made aware of them, I immediately called for an independent investigation into the allegations.
“The ICC denied this request which I believe reflected their unwillingness to verify the allegations and their agenda to remove me from my role.”
But one former colleague says they were left ‘in bits’ after a confrontation.
They told the Telegraph: “[After a heated debate] I had to leave the room. Just a normal, challenging, robust debate, and it broke me. I was in bits. I’m still scared of him.
“I’m not a little, shy, retiring wallflower, and I work with difficult people – and I’m fine with difficult people. But I can’t underestimate the impact he had.”
