SLAVISA JOKANOVIC has been sounded out about taking over from Chris Wilder as Sheffield United manager.
The relegated Blades have invited the former Watford and Fulham boss for talks after plans to appoint Oostende’s Alexander Blessin and Bramall Lane caretaker chief Paul Heckingbottom backfired.
A move for German Blessin, 47, hit the buffers because he doesn’t fulfil the requirements to be granted a work permit.
And Heckingbottom, 43, has now become an outsider in the race to replace Wilder because Blades bigwigs have concerns over his ability after winning only one of his eight games in temporary charge so far.
And the former Barnsley, Leeds and Hibernian manager would not be a popular choice with United fans.
Jokanovic, 52, wants to work in England again following a successful stint in Qatar, where he led Al-Gharafa into the qualifying rounds of the AFC Champions League.
Bramall Lane bosses are now chasing the Serb because he has more experience than Heckingbottom, having won promotion to the Premier League with both the Hornets and Fulham
Jokanovic wouldn’t need to worry about getting a work permit.
He already has the necessary qualifications to take a job in English football again.
The Blades are keen to appoint Wilder’s successor before the end of the season.

Jan van Winckel, who is the chief football advisor to United owner Prince Abdullah, is spearheading the search for the new manager.
He has identified Club Brugge’s Philippe Clement as his next target if they fail to land Jokanovic.
