Just four points off the top four, Chelsea are up to sixth and in touching distance of rivals Everton, West Ham and Liverpool.
And Kovacic, 26, hopes the team can continue to target a Champions League place for next season.
He told the club website: “We have started well under the new coach.
“That’s two wins in a row, plus a draw in his first game, and he’s explained to us exactly what he wants from us.
“We have started well but I think we can do even better.
“We played well against Tottenham and if we continue like that I think we can certainly get back into the top four.

“I think with this team we are good enough and we deserve to be there but you have to work hard for it.
“So let’s take things game by game and see where it takes us.”
Tuchel takes his side to bottom-club Sheffield United on Sunday for a 7.15pm kick-off.
The Blades have experienced their own mini revivial with three wins in five.
But the new manager is considering rotating his line-up to keep it fresh for the busy schedule ahead.
Tuchel said: “Maybe we need some changes to be sharp again and to be physical again.
“So we can compete at the highest level in the next away game against a strong, physical Sheffield United, that won their last game.”
