Burnley name extremely rare 1 to 11 numbered team in traditional positions to face Liverpool and fans call it ‘glorious’

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche got footie fans wagging their tongues by naming an extremely-rare perfect starting XI for his side’s clash with Liverpool.

The Clarets travelled to Anfield on Saturday looking to pick up their first points of the new Premier League season.

Fan favourite Dyche named his starting XI for the game on Merseyside an hour before kick-off.

And Clarets fans couldn’t help but notice their manager had named a starting XI with squad numbers 1-11.

To make the coincidence even bigger, the players’ numbers corresponded with their traditional positions.

Dyche told BT Sport: “Another old-fashioned thing about me. 1 to 11, who would’ve thought it?”

Dyche’s naming of his 1-11 starting XI was the first time in 22 years a Premier League time has fielded a perfect eleven when Charlton last did it.

Clarets supporters were quick to take to Twitter, with one tweeting: “Burnley name their starting team consisting of players wearing the numbers 1-11.

“All also playing in the traditional positions for the numbers. Glorious.

Another said: “Sean Dyche going old school and starting squad numbers 1-11 in starting line up.”

And another said: “SHIRT NUMBERS 1-11 IN THE STARTING LINE UP.”

One remarked: ” They’ve actually lined up using squad numbers 1 to 11.”

Dyche has also opted to go for the traditional 4-4-2 formation, which has gone by the wayside in recent years.

Another fan remarked: “Yes. 1-11, 4-4-2. Things you love to see.

“And in the traditional places! 1 3, 5, 6, 2 7, 4, 8, 11 9, 10 The way it should be!”

One merely said: “Glorious.”

Dyche’s perfect starting XI were unable to replicate their victory at Anfield last January, suffering a 2-0 defeat to the Merseysiders.

Goals from Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane sent Jurgen Klopp’s side back to the top of the table.
