  • THAT’S ALL FROM MILAN

Liverpool defeated AC Milan 2-1 at the San Siro and became the first ever English team to win all of their six games in the Champions League group stage.

Milan were looking at qualification to the Last 16 on 29 minutes when Junior Messias delivered a corner kick from the right and Zlatan Ibrahimovic flicked it towards goal at the near post.

Takumi Minamino failed to block it and Alisson palmed the ball away after being caught by surprise.

Fikayo Tomori got the rebound and scored his first ever Champions League goal.

But Liverpool responded just seven minutes later when Mike Maignan failed to hold on to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s shot and Mohamed Salah scored his 20th goal across all competitions from close range.

The Reds completed their comeback after 55 minutes when Tomori gave the ball away and Sadio Mane picked up possession before delivering a shot that was blocked by Maignan.

But the danger wasn’t over yet as Divock Origi got the header and put the Merseysiders ahead.

With Atletico Madrid beating Porto 3-1 away, Liverpool are joined by the Spanish champions in the next round whereas the Portuguese giants move on to the Europa League and Milan are out altogether.

  • TONALI REACTS

AC Milan ace Sandro Tonali insists this was a difficult game even though a number of key Liverpool players didn’t start.

Tonali told Sky Italia: “We knew it was a difficult game, as even without some of their first-choice players, Liverpool have so much strength in depth.

“We learned from the experience against these top teams and that is what we will take with us going forward.

“We could’ve done more, that is always true, but we didn’t hold back today and cannot turn back time.

“All we can do now is continue along our path and focus on the next objective”

  • MORE FROM KLOPP

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is over the moon after the big win over AC Milan at the San Siro.

Here’s what he told BT Sport:

  • KLOPP REACTS

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp “couldn’t be more proud” of his highly rotated side against AC Milan.

Klopp said: “I think when I said before the game that we wanted to win the game everyone was yeah, of course.

“But we needed fresh legs, we needed desire to play this game, which is difficult with the epic schedule we have.

“And what the boys did tonight, I couldn’t be more proud. I’m so happy with so many things I saw tonight.

“That we won the game is great but the performance was outstanding. Having 21 shots, so many situations where we played outstandingly well, and defended with passion and good organisation. So really happy”

  • REDS TRIUMPH

The talk of the town is about Liverpool becoming the first ever English team to win all of their six games in the Champions League group stage.

But that is not the only record the Reds broke tonight after their 2-1 win over AC Milan at the San Siro.

The Merseysiders also won six consecutive games in the Champions League for the first time in their history.

Liverpool made quick work out the likes of Atletico Madrid, Porto and Milan, surely they are among the favourites to win the title

  • UPDATED TABLE

Liverpool have comfortably topped what was previously dubbed the ‘group of death’ after the Champions League draw.

Atletico Madrid join them to the Last 16 after winning 3-1 against Porto, who will continue at the Europa League.

Milan, on the other hand, are out of Europe altogether.

    More below:

  • STATS

Liverpool dominated 51.4 per cent of possession despite playing with a highly rotated squad.

The Reds registered a total of 22 shots, seven of which were on target at the San Siro.

AC Milan, on the other hand, produced eight shots but only three of them were on target.

This was a crucial match for Milan and we expected some tension but weirdly enough there wasn’t a single booking throughout the entire match
