DILLIAN WHYTE could be made mandatory for the winner of Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder’s trilogy following Anthony Joshua’s loss.
Joshua blew his chance to unify the division with Tyson Fury after losing his WBA, IBF and WBO belts to Oleksandr Usyk.
With a rematch set to follow, it could be some time before either AJ or Usyk could then put the titles up for an undisputed title decider.
Promoter Eddie Hearn believes the WBC will now take the opportunity to officially mandate Whyte for Fury’s strap.
Hearn told iFL TV: “As long as Dillian beats Otto Wallin, then Whyte is mandatory for the winner of that fight immediately.
“There is no reason not to do it. Dillian, who 100 per cent would have wanted AJ to win, because he’s not like that.
“He now sits there as probably a cast-iron mandatory challenger to the winner of Wilder-Fury.
“So now, while you’re waiting for the undisputed fight, which, if it does happen, will probably happen next summer.
“The winner of Wilder-Fury will probably fight the winner of Whyte-Wallin because they will have to because the mandatory will be called.”
Whyte spent over 1,000 days as the WBC’s No1 ranked contender until he was finally called as mandatory challenger.
But in August 2020, after a shock knockout loss to Alexander Povetkin, his title shot was blown up in smoke.
Whyte, 33, later returned the favour in four rounds against Povetkin, 41, to regain his position as next in line for the WBC title.
But with Joshua, 31, previously in talks for a unification with Fury, 33, the WBC had not officially called their mandatory.
Fury was later ordered into his contracted trilogy bout with Wilder, 35, set for October 9.
It left Joshua mandated to defend his belts against Usyk, 34, which ended in defeat.
As long as Dillian beats Otto Wallin, then Whyte is mandatory for the winner of that fight immediately.

He is now set to exercise his right to an immediate rematch, leaving any unifications hopes shelved.
So as long as Whyte beats Otto Wallin, 30, on October 30, he will find himself in line to challenge either Fury or Wilder.
Hearn said: “It’s a really interesting situation. Anything can happen.
“In an ideal world, Tyson Fury beats Deontay Wilder, the mandatory is called for Dillian Whyte.
“Dillian Whyte beats Tyson Fury, AJ beats Usyk, and then we got Whyte against AJ for the undisputed next summer.”
