Yasemin Guveli fires up Eczacibasi in Champions League

Lausanne, Switzerland, February 21, 2020 – Yasemin Guveli has been pivotal in this year’s aspirations of Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul, massively helping the Turkish side in advancing to the quarterfinals of the European Champions League, as well as in leading the race in the Turkish League.

The 21-year-old middle blocker bagged an impressive nine blocks in Eczacibasi’s last match of pool play in the Champions League this week against Poland’s Budowlani Lodz, leading the two-time world champions and one-time European champions to a five-set win that keeps them undefeated so far in Europe’s premier club tournament.

She stands in second place in the best blockers list of the Champions League amongst the teams qualified for the last eight, with a total of 22 stuffs and an average of 1.1 per set. Ranked by blocking efficiency, she is second only to Terry Enweonwu of Italy’s A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano.

Flanked by Brazil’s Natalia Pereira and Serbia’s Tijana Boskovic, Yasemin Guveli goes up to block Greece’s Anthi Vassilantonaki as she helps Eczacibasi edge crowsstown rivals Galatasaray.

Eczacibasi are now drawn to face Savino Del Bene Scandicci in the quarterfinals of the Champions League – and if Guveli keeps it up, the Italian side has a challenge ahead of them.
