Siming Beach Volleyball World Tour event cancelled
Lausanne, Switzerland, February 26, 2020 – In light of careful evaluation of the current situation regarding coronavirus in China, and following the request received from the China Volleyball Association and relevant authorities, a joint decision has been made to cancel the 4-star Beach Volleyball World Tour event, which was due to take place from 29 April – 3 May in Siming of Xiamen City, China. Efforts were made with all parties to postpone but alternative dates later in the year after the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 could not be secured by the organiser.
The cancellation of the event is a preventative measure to protect the health and wellbeing of our athletes, fans and officials, which must be the FIVB’s top priority.
Once again, the FIVB reiterates its sympathy for those affected by the outbreak, and stands in solidarity with the whole volleyball community in China. We will continue to work closely with the World Health Organisation and CVA, and to monitor the situation closely so that China can reassume its rightful place on the world volleyball stage as soon as possible.
