Massawa, Eritrea, January 21, 2020 – Rwanda and Egypt men’s beach volleyball teams captured second round tickets to the 2020 CAVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup at Gesgum Beach in Massawa, Eritrea in CAVB Men’s Pool 6 this weekend.
Rwanda won the tournament following consecutive victories against hosts Eritrea 2-0 (21-7, 21-16) and 2-0 (21-15, 21-10) in the pool phase.
Rwanda then beat South Sudan 2-0 (21-9, 21-7) and 2-0 (21-12, 21-13) and finally overcame Egypt in the tournament’s gold medal decider 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) and 2-0 (21-19, 21-8).

Egypt claimed second position after they defeated Eritrea 2-0 twice and then outclassed South Sudan by the same result.
South Sudan finished third after they beat hosts Eretria in a thrilling golden set encounter 2-0 (21-19, 21-13), 0-2 (13-21, 15-21) and the golden set 15-9.
Now Rwanda and Egypt will proceed to the second round among 20 teams who will compete to determine the top 8 who qualify for the finals. The second round will be hosted in various countries from mid-February to the end of March.
The busy beach volleyball season started in January with the sub-zonal phase of the 2020 CAVB Continental Cup, which serves as the continental pathway to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
From the middle of February until the end of March, thrills will continue with the second round of the CAVB Continental Cup where 20 men and women teams will compete in four pools to determine the top 8 teams who will proceed to the finals of the Continental Cup.
