Historic media rights agreement marks beginning of new era for European Volleyball

Vienna, Austria, February 29, 2020 – The delegates from as many as 53 National Federations attending the CEV Extraordinary General Assembly held on Saturday at Marriott Hotel in Vienna played an instrumental role towards ushering in a new era for European Volleyball, ratifying the historic agreement signed by the CEV with long-time media rights partner Infront. The deal, which runs from 2020 to 2032, foresees guaranteed payments and services in the value of over € 100 million.

A number of reasons make this deal a truly historic step forward for European Volleyball.

The agreement foresees a real partnership approach, with the European Volleyball family benefiting from Infront’s extensive know how and experience in the business to deliver high-level products for broadcasters and fans alike.

The deal discloses unprecedented opportunities for European Volleyball at all levels, laying the foundations for financial stability and helping the CEV increase their investment to grow the sport even further in years to come.

The CEV remains the owner of the rights and to reflect the strategic vision of their leadership, the European Confederation will be cooperating with one agency only for the management and marketing of the media rights of all major competitions and three disciplines (Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball), thus accounting for consistency and quality across the whole spectrum.

Aleksandar Boričić, CEV President said: “This is a milestone agreement for the CEV and the whole European Volleyball family which clearly indicates our strong ambition to further invest into the growth of our sport in Europe. Infront has been a trustful partner of the CEV for the last 27 years and this new agreement will bring us even closer together and I look forward to jointly taking our sport to new heights across all disciplines. I am happy that the members of our Volleyball family understood the importance and benefits of this agreement, which clearly is in the best interest of all parties – and lays the foundation for a bright future for our sport.”

Philippe Blatter, Infront President and CEO said: “Infront has been a dedicated and reliable partner of the CEV for more than two decades and in that time both the Volleyball and Beach Volleyball European Championships have seen exponential growth in TV audience. This new and unique partnership will allow Infront and CEV to further develop Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Snow Volleyball together through innovation, increased audiences and improved production while enjoying access to financial security on a long-term basis.”
