FIVB promotes clean sport on Play True Day

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 9, 2020 – Today the FIVB celebrates Play True Day as the organisation reiterates its commitment to clean sport.

The Play True Day was originally initiated by countries in South America in 2014, after inspiration was drawn from a WADA-hosted Education Conference in 2013. Since its inaugural celebration, Play True Day has gone from strength to strength as it continues to raise awareness for clean sport, clean competition and clean athletes.

In the summer of 2015, the FIVB developed an online programme to educate and ensure that players are aware of their rights and responsibilities on the matter of anti-doping. This initiative is called the FIVB Play Clean programme, and it has been continually modified and updated to reflect the latest advice, in line with the World Anti-Doping Code, so that players can be supported in competing clean.
In addition, the FIVB ran a variety of programmes throughout the past year to promote its strong anti-doping message. This included both players and spectators alike receiving educational resources and presentations at events like the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 2019 4-star event in Tokyo to foster knowledge and encourage clean sport.

This year’s Play True Day is occurring under unusual circumstances, and this is reflected in its distinctive theme of Play Safe on Play True Day 2020. Volleyball players worldwide are doing their part to curb the spread of the virus by following the guidelines of their relevant health authorities, and showing their support for the incredible work of healthcare workers worldwide.

The Slovenian Volleyball Federation is also participating in Play True Day, and have expressed their support for the initiative on Twitter.
