De Kruijf happy to be back on court in Conegliano win

Robin de Kruijf scored 15 points in Conegliano’s 3-0 Champions League win over Stuttgart

Stuttgart, Germany, March 5, 2020 – Robin de Kruijf admitted that she was happy to help break the boredom factor by scoring 15 points in Imoco Conegliano’s 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) win over Allianz MTV Stuttgart in the CEV Champions League on Wednesday.

The Dutch centre’s form at the Scharrena Stuttgart means that the Italian club only need to win two sets when the return leg takes place at the Palaverde Villorba on March 11 to reach the semifinals.

It also ended a 10-day wait to play a match after the majority of the Italian league’s matches were postponed at the weekend to limit the spread of the cononavirus.

“We are very happy, but we still have another match to play,” de Kruijf said. “At the beginning it was a tough match with all the emotions of the occasion but we played well and stopped Stuttgart from playing their game.”

“I am very happy that we managed to play because we’ve only been training and that is boring.”

Conegliano are trying to go one better than they did in 2019 when they finished in second place, the year when they did become world champions by winning the Shaoxing 2019 FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship.

Italian star spiker Paola Egonu was again in strong form and led scoring with 20 points including three aces and two blocks.

“After not having played for ten days it was all about continuity and the easy things,” she said. “After securing the basics, the rest came by itself.”
